[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
It seems to work great for me now. When I select the Windows print server a dialog pops up to prompt for authentication. [Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
This is an old bug, Gutsy is no longer supported. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test in Ubuntu 10.04 or higher. If it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. ** Changed in: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154385 Title: samba printers don't show in smb browser -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
Happens to me too, Windows-ish environment. I can browse workgroups and servers but when I finally navigate to the print server, it doesn't list any printers. The arrow next to the server simply goes away, and you can only either Cancel or Refresh (or click on a different host). This happens even if I click requires authentication and type in my user name and password before attempting to browse. (I would have expected it to pop up an authentication dialog if the server requires authentication and I hadn't typed in any credentials in the Add printer main dialog box.) As others have reported, if you know the print server and printer name, that's a good workaround. (If you have a Windows box where the printer is available, you can glean these details from its Properties, although of course having to touch Windows sucks big time.) Why is this marked Incomplete? I'm taking that away and marking this Confirmed. If you need additional information, please be more clear about what is still missing. @Tim Waugh: this is when adding a printer to the system. [Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
I will be re-writing the SMB browsing code so that it will cope properly with required authentication for printers, using libsmbclient rather than parsing the output of smbclient. For 0.7.x, it should probably just set the USER environment variable in pysmb before executing smbclient. -- samba printers don't show in smb browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
I have experienced the same issue trying to connect to a printer shared by a system which resided on a Domain. The system requires authentication to connect to the printer, so it was not visible from the SMB Browser [the system and domain are visible, but there are no printers available on the system]. I was able to connect to the printer, though, by manually filling in the field above where you enter your credentials [domain/server/printer_share_name], then by entering my domain login information. You should get a confirmation message if you use the validate button to ensure that the printer is accessible. -- samba printers don't show in smb browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
Hi there. Also happens with me. I can not see the printer in SMB browser. The windows account has password. If I type the address manually (smb://workgroup/server/printername), enter the user and the password in the right fields after checking Required authentication, and click on Verify... button, it says that the printer IS ACCESSIBLE, but if I click on Print a test page on Printer settings dialog, does not happen anything. Also, if I go to an application and i try to print, the printer APPEARS well but nothing happens if I click Print button. I will make new tests if you suggest them. -- samba printers don't show in smb browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154385] Re: samba printers don't show in smb browser
Not back at work until Wednesday, I will post the terminal output then. I don't think it will help though as when I ran it from the terminal yesterday nothing was output when using the smb browser. I did try it on 2 different gutsy installs with 2 separate users and had the same problem. I will post the security permissions for the printers when I'm back at work. Did you have any permissions for everyone?
