[Bug 155075] Re: package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade:
Sorry, I forgot to add that I use Intrepid with all update up to yesterday... I also might be in the wrong place as my problem is about 'linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic', sorry for my mistake in previous post. Partial upgrade does not work either: Could not install 'linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic' The upgrade will continue but the 'linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic' package may be in a not working state. Please consider submitting a bugreport about it. subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1 -- package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 155075] Re: package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade:
Hi, sorry for coming with basic skill on what seems to me like top level talk but my problem is basic. I got a Dell XPS M1330, all worked perfect except the mic input. I googled a little and found a solution that was geting a dell package that install linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14-generic. Now my built in mic work if I shout in it but any attempt to upgrade or do add/remove or fix broken package is impossible because of this new package. Does anyone have a solution for a basic user ? Hi aaronh, I see you received our automated call for testing of the 2.6.27 kernel - sorry for the extra noise. It was bound to happen that the stock reply would not read well with all reports so thanks for following up here and clarifying your request. This is more a general feature request for update-manager so I am going to reassign this accordingly. Thanks. ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: linux => update-manager Importance: Undecided => Wishlist Status: Incomplete => Triaged -- package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 155075] Re: package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade:
Thanks very much for the update. I should be clear, the problem was easily fixed by manually copying packages during the install process. I'm not certain how upgrading the kernel will help, because the problem was in a bad CD read. I've since manually fixed the system and have it running well. My problem report was a feature request that there be an option to re-install packages that failed to install. Like maybe when a package fails to install, the ubuntu installer would a) Let you try to install the package again, and b) let you choose the source for the package. [Bug 155075] Re: package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade:
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

HI Aaronh, Thanks you for this report and helping to make Ubuntu better. From your comments, it seems you'd be interested in something like Apport which is a useful tool for collecting system information when applications crash - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/ApportRetraces . Additionally, the following wiki describes some of the log files that will be of interest when you run into issues updating packages - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUpdateManager . Let us know if this is what you maybe had in mind? Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- package linux-image-generic 2.6.22.14.21 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
