More appropriately, is the issue reproducible in 8.10?

[Bug 155219] Re: wifi power indicator doesn't display states

2008-10-20 Thread Sharon Rose
I am having the same problem with Hardy Heron 8.04 2.6.24-19 & -21 on a
Dell Latitude D520: Fn+F2 hotkey toggles WiFi power on and off, as
expected, but the WiFi indicator LED is always dark. The Network
Manager systray indicator gives a good idea of what is going on with the
WiFi connection, so this isn't a big problem for me, but it could be a
major inconvenience in troubleshooting connection difficulties.

The WiFi indicator LED works fine in Win XP - flickers as WiFi
connection is made, lights solid once connected, and dark when radio
power is off. Bluetooth power is also controlled by the Fn+F2 hotkey,
and both hotkey control of Bluetooth power and the Bluetooth indicator
LED work correctly under both Ubuntu and Win XP.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 155219] Re: wifi power indicator doesn't display states

2007-10-20 Thread botbotdingzip
** Description changed:

The wifi state indicator light on my Dell Ispiron 1300 won't change when I
use the hotkeys.
- The actual state changes because when I interigate IWLIST the "txpower" is
either in an "on" or "off" state as it should be, but the light is
unresponsive. The indicator light works perfectly well on a XP (dual boot
XP/Kubuntu) system. Expected output is for the wifi state indicator light to
change with the "txpower" state.
+ The actual state changes because when I interigate IWCONFIG the "txpower" is
either in an "on" or "off" state as it should be, but the light is
unresponsive. The indicator light works perfectly well on a XP (dual boot
XP/Kubuntu) system. Expected output is for the wifi state indicator light to
change with the "txpower" state.

This result is repeatable on Dapper LTS and Feisty Fawn with Intel
  Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG(rev 05). I haven't tried the latest
Ubuntu release to see if it also fails there also. A fix would be hirely
desirable as we have no easy way to see if wifi is active or not, and it
is not obvious for a new user how to remedy this. I have googled the net
and others have the same problem with the same wifi chipset which is
  quite common.

To reproduce the problem: alternate between "txpower=on" and
"txpower=off" with the hotkeys. Light remains in an "off" state (totally
unresponsive) regardless of the actual wifi state.
