[Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
This is fixed in Karmic - a fresh tracker install has no "Divisions=" in the tracker.cfg file. ** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for that Christian, Changing the typo from "Dvisions=4" to "Divisions=4" has worked wonderfully. -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
This helped for me: Gedit ~/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg and search for vision. Duplicate the line and insert a "i" (seems to be a typo) to the second line: old: "Dvisions=4" new: "Divisions=4" After this change wait some time (e.g. 1 minute). So the ~/.cache/tracker/*tmp* files are dissappeared and the load is back to normal. [Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
On a fully updated hardy, I am still experiencing a minor version of this bug. Basically, tracker seems to work very well, but occasionally (once every few weeks) it will still go off the deep end (i.e., try to index ad infinitum, database size grows indefinitely). Reindexing fixes the problem after which point is again OK for a few weeks. I can reliably get it to go off the deep end by doing a pkill trackerd (not -9, just regular pkill). However, on at least one occasion, it did go off the deep end by itself. Very frustrating bug for the developers, I am sure. I rely on tracker every day and really appreciate the effort you've put into it. -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
Problem still seems to exist in Hardy. Installing tracker-utils package then following Jamie McCracken's advice appears to have fixed it. Originally did not finish indexing on my computer after running for 24+ hours, but indexed in under 5 mins after following above advice. -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug should be fixed in tracker 0.6.4, which is now in Hardy. Could someone please confirm it? [Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
Pausanias, we are working on making sure it does not corrupt by checking it shuts down cleanly - we have already fixed a hang that sometimes occurs if it does not shutdown cleanly on next startup it will perform an integrity check and if and only if that fails will we force a reindex gnome-session allows 10 secs for trackerd to exit by default so I dont think this will be common. Also an unclean shutdown should not corrupt the database unless its in the middle of indexing We have also moved all writing to the database to one thread to also rule out multiple threads corrupting the index so the goal is to make it much more robust -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 155244] Re: tracker does not stop
Jamie: I sincerely hope that there's going to be a better solution to this than reindexing from scratch every time there's a corruption. There are many reasons trackerd might have to exit ungracefully, (including the gnome-session issue we've talked about in 157523), and it would be nice if it didn't have to reindex the whole hard drive every time. -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

cuby: no this is not the same as 153319. In this case trackerd does NOT use 100% CPU. can you run: killall trackerd trackerd --reindex I suspect the sqlite file file-meta.db has become corrupted and is not functioning properly to avoid corruption: 1) never kill -9 it unless you intend to reindex it 2) let it finish indexing before powering down I will fix this anyhow by doing a full integrity check on the sqlite dbs at startup and force a reindex if corruption found ** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Jamie McCracken (jamiemcc-blueyonder) Status: New => In Progress -- tracker does not stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
