[Bug 155461] Re: Upgrade problems Feisty - Gutsy

Me three on this experience. Thanks for saving me a lot of typing,
Chris. :~)

Though the upgrade so far seems to have worked (I had to leave the
machine unattended again), I'm still a little nervous about a failure in
authenticaton-related packages. I didn't reinstall libpam0g, but gdm
logins and sudo are going fine.

BTW, if libpam0g was left in an unusable state last time I tried
upgrading, it probably explains why I couldn't get out of screenlock on
my first upgrade attempt. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-screensaver/+bug/146412/comments/3)

(@Rog,Luis: The duplicate status seems wrong to me, too.)

Hope this is helping someone.

This really does not seem to be a duplicate of #134858. It's clear that
for that bug the package where the bug shows up is more or less random,
whereas here it always start with libpam0g. My upgrade is still going,
but the list of files that fail so far is identical to the posted. Race
conditions should depend heavily on the particular hardware, thus will
show up in different files, but this bug always start at libpam0g. I
didn't have Pidgin, just the gnome-desktop. I have a few packages
installed outside ubuntu (Codeweavers cross office, latest ATI binary
drivers, ...), but it's mostly an up-to-date Feisty install.

@luis: I also have the latest ATI binary drivers installed.

Also other software (including non-free, like Opera and Skype) -- if the
output of anything else is needed, I'll be happy to provide it. This is
a Thinkpad T60.

(I have not had any more major problems once I got libpam0g and the rest
reinstalled after the upgrade.)

I'm experiencing this issue also. The upgrade is still running, and
only libpam0g, libpam_modules and login have failed so far. Not sure
how it's a duplicate of #134858, there's no mention of 'libpam0g' there.
