Ubuntu better.
I can confirm that scripts support is present in nmap in Trusty.
Looking at the most current version of nmap in Xenial, it appears that script
support is available
Can you update your system and see if the latest version of nmap is working
with --scripts for you as well?
$ apt-cache policy nmap
