[Bug 1592442] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
Saif Taifur Anwar, I'm closing this report, as your crash report is manually attached (also, please don't compress/tar attachments as it makes it harder for developers to review). Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash Where FILENAME is the actual name of the file found in the folder. However, the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, it wouldn't be most helpful to attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. [Bug 1592442] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
I will attack some files as requested. In /var/crash i found one file: _usr_bin_mate-panel.1000.crash Alongside, i am uploading the kernel logs. Those kernel logs are huge, and at this point very tedious for someone to look into that stuff. I also don't remember which date the crash happened after bios update. So if you guys want, i can wait for a system freeze, and then upload the kernel logs. I am not really familiar with crash dump recipe, not i believe it makes a dump. My system freezes completely. ** Attachment added: "crash and logs.tar.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1592442/+attachment/4762177/+files/crash%20and%20logs.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592442 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1592442/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Saif Taifur Anwar, could you please capture the crash following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSystemCrash ? [Bug 1592442] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
I had 2 freezes in a months use. I suspect the bios update has lessen the issue. But the hard crash happened. 1. Output of the terminal is as follows: saif@saif-Aspire-E3-112:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date [sudo] password for saif: V1.16 10/20/2015 saif@saif-Aspire-E3-112:~$ Not sure if it helps, but i think this hard crash has to do something with dual booting windows. Windows so far has no problem on hard crash, but as i dual boot, it suspends the hard disk. Yesterday i was having problem shutting down ubuntu. Then made restart, started windows, restarted from it. Then went into ubuntu and then it had no problem shutting down. If it helps, i will post a screenshot when it can't shutdown. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592442 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1592442/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1592442] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
Saif Taifur Anwar, as per http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (1.16). When you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the situation? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new report. It is most helpful that after the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the situation. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your help. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592442 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1592442/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have installed v4.7-rc3 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/ The wifi seems not to be working, but i guess that's okey because its a beta or something ? I will add the tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream' once i do extensive testing to check whether the system is stable ) minus the wifi. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592442 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1592442/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1592442] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial hard crashing on ACER E3-11-P0D8
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.7-rc1 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
