Re: [Bug 1593985] Re: USB devices not found at boot

2016-06-21 Thread gratefulfrog
In the meantime, I can no longer get any usb keyboard or mouse to be
recognized. It worked fine, then the next day, there seems to be no way to
boot.

As the machine is dual boot with WIN10, I can still use it that way, but I
don't know how to debug this ... I am now trying various combinations of
BIOS options, but last week, that did not help...

Any ideas would be great...

Cheers,
Bob

2016-06-20 Thread gratefulfrog
I am not sure if an update was the cause of the appearance of this issue.
I was running XUbuntu 15.10, and it occurred. I then decided to update to
16.04 with the hope of fixing things, but that did not help.

For sure, this was not a problem a few weeks ag, but I do not know which
automatic updates were applied...

I will try the upstream kernel and report back.

Cheers,
Bob

[Bug 1593985] Re: USB devices not found at boot

2016-06-20 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.7 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1593985] Re: USB devices not found at boot

2016-06-18 Thread gratefulfrog
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

I have suddenly had critical problems at boot on my asus X99-S
motherboard with INTEL I7-5280K CPU and MSI NVIDEA GTX970 graphics card.

The USB Keyboard and mouse are not operational once I get to the XUBUNTU
login screen. They work during the bios setup.

  I am on XUbuntu 16.10.

I can dual boot to windows 10, ok, it seems.

I have the latest BIOS 3101.

I have tried disabling fast boot, no change; enabling xHCI and/or EHCI,
no change, full and partial USB, all with no change...

I was able to take a picture of the boot error messages and it is
  attached.

Please, please help, I am quite desperate...
  Cheers,
  Bob
