Happened to me too. The printing house and publisher only accept .ai files, but inkscape doesn't support it. Reproduced on Xubuntu 16.04 (64-bit), with python-uniconvertor 1.1.5-2 and Inkscape 0.91-7ubuntu2. Inkscape uses Uniconvertor to import and export PLT files, and thus fails with the same python error.
