Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit
In /etc/mime.types the file extensions "~ % bak old sik" are of type application/x-trash. Files with those extensions are not visible in gedit's file browser (side pane). Despite my setting in "File Management Preferences - Views - Show hidden and backup files", those files are still visible in Nautilus. They are, however, not visible in gedit's file browser. So this is either a bug on either one application or a consistency issue. Why hide backup/trash files from users in the first place? This does not make much sense unless there is some sort of a "delete backup/trash files" menu. Even that, I think most users would know foo.txt~ is a backup file of foo.txt when they see it and they should be the one to decide whether they need to keep the backup file individually. As a side note I have never understood the idea of a number of alternative extensions for backup files when one should just be enough. Also, I find it odd that ~ and bak are somewhat decided to be backup files when they are put under application/x-trash files. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gedit: trash files do not show in file browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164584 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
