[Bug 16842] Re: xorg.conf is not configured correctly for a Compaq Presario 1800T laptop

2008-11-10 Thread buggsy2
I just did a fresh install of xubuntu 8.10 on a clean disk Compaq
Presario 1800 with 196MB RAM. Same problem as described above. Screen
displays OK with "Safe Graphics" install mode but I'd like to know if
it's possible to increase the resolution.

[Bug 16842] Re: xorg.conf is not configured correctly for a Compaq Presario 1800T laptop

2008-10-26 Thread bkibbey
hey, can you re-open? I have an 1800t, and will stay with you until you
can close this out. I'm having this same issue, am a Linux/Ubuntu
newbie (sorry) but hopefully I won't be too painful...

Here's what I've observed/done...

1st - when i boot, everything looks fine until the login prompt screen
comes up... the screen paints but there is a vertical blur in the middle
and the screen on each side of that line is similar (like the screen is
being split and overwritten half way, weird).

2nd - NEW FACT FOR YOU - when I press Fn-F3 (this laptops key combo to
switch to an external monitor) TWICE (switch to and back), the screen
comes back fine without the blur... weird. I figured this out on a
fluke but it works as a temporary workaround for those trying to get
through the install.

3rd - I overwrote my xorg.conf file with this one
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/1509936/xorg.conf and restarted. result -
still get the blur on the login screen, do my fn-f3 combo twice, login,
and now i have 1024x768 resolution (instead of 800x600).

So that file helped for sure, but i'm still getting the weirdness until
I switch the internal display on/off.

Any thoughts?

2008-09-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sounds like this is the magic bit:

SubSection "extmod"
  Option"omit xorg-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
EndSubSection

Could you please test this clean xorg.conf, which is a current stock
xorg.conf just with the above bit added? If it makes it work, then we
can forward this upstream for more advice. (Maybe it needs a quirk)

I also confirm that using the third version of the xorg.conf file posted
here (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/1509936/xorg.conf) seems to fix the
problem.

[Bug 16842] Re: xorg.conf is not configured correctly for a Compaq Presario 1800T laptop

2008-03-25 Thread Robert
I confirm this issue.

I have the same problem with a Compaq Presario 1800T on Hardy. (I've had
the same problem with this laptop since Feisty; it worked fine with
Dapper and Edgy.)

FYI, I've also had the same problem trying Debian Etch on this laptop,
so the issue is probably upstream.

The problem is that there is a thin vertical artifact a few pixels wide
at 800x600. On 640x480 the artifact is significantly wider.
