[Bug 1702961] Re: Intel wifi instability with 4.10 and Intel Device 24fd
For me, running Zesty on W230SS Clevo, it is even worse: wireless networking stops working entirely about 1-2 hours after booting. Reboot necessary. Still waiting for my first release upgrade without serious graphics or networking issues, sigh :( [ 8976.597078] [ cut here ] [ 8976.597096] WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 1818 at /build/linux-d6ZFKv/linux-4.10.0/drivers/net/wireless/intel/iwlwifi/mvm/sta.c:1523 iwl_mvm_rm_sta+0x3e3/0x460 [iwlmvm] [ 8976.597097] Modules linked in: rfcomm msr ccm cmac pci_stub vboxpci(OE) vboxnetadp(OE) vboxnetflt(OE) bbswitch(OE) vboxdrv(OE) bnep iptable_filter xt_conntrack ipt_MASQUERADE nf_nat_masquerade_ipv4 iptable_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 nf_nat_ipv4 nf_nat nf_conntrack libcrc32c twofish_generic twofish_avx_x86_64 ablk_helper twofish_x86_64_3way lrw twofish_x86_64 twofish_common dm_crypt binfmt_misc uvcvideo videobuf2_vmalloc btusb videobuf2_memops btrtl videobuf2_v4l2 btbcm videobuf2_core btintel videodev bluetooth media arc4 gpio_ich mxm_wmi intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_powerclamp coretemp kvm_intel kvm irqbypass crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul ghash_clmulni_intel pcbc nvidia_uvm(POE) aesni_intel iwlmvm aes_x86_64 crypto_simd glue_helper snd_hda_codec_hdmi cryptd mac80211 intel_cstate [ 8976.597129] intel_rapl_perf snd_hda_codec_via snd_hda_codec_generic snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event joydev snd_rawmidi snd_hda_intel input_leds snd_hda_codec iwlwifi snd_hda_core snd_seq snd_hwdep cfg80211 rtsx_pci_ms ie31200_edac snd_pcm memstick edac_core snd_seq_device snd_timer snd mei_me mei shpchp lpc_ich soundcore tpm_infineon mac_hid serio_raw wmi parport_pc ppdev lp parport ip_tables x_tables autofs4 i915 nvidia_drm(POE) rtsx_pci_sdmmc nvidia_modeset(POE) nvidia(POE) i2c_algo_bit drm_kms_helper syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt fb_sys_fops ahci psmouse libahci drm r8169 rtsx_pci mii fjes video [ 8976.597160] CPU: 3 PID: 1818 Comm: wpa_supplicant Tainted: P IOE 4.10.0-37-generic #41-Ubuntu [ 8976.597161] Hardware name: Notebook W230SS /W230SS , BIOS 4.6.5 04/15/2014 [ 8976.597161] Call Trace: [ 8976.597166] dump_stack+0x63/0x81 [ 8976.597168] __warn+0xcb/0xf0 [ 8976.597169] warn_slowpath_null+0x1d/0x20 [ 8976.597177] iwl_mvm_rm_sta+0x3e3/0x460 [iwlmvm] [ 8976.597182] iwl_mvm_mac_sta_state+0x409/0x5d0 [iwlmvm] [ 8976.597209] drv_sta_state+0x8a/0x420 [mac80211] [ 8976.597221] __sta_info_destroy_part2+0x17a/0x1b0 [mac80211] [ 8976.597233] __sta_info_flush+0xf5/0x1b0 [mac80211] [ 8976.597251] ieee80211_set_disassoc+0xba/0x3f0 [mac80211] [ 8976.597267] ieee80211_mgd_deauth+0x27a/0x490 [mac80211] [ 8976.597282] ieee80211_deauth+0x18/0x20 [mac80211] [ 8976.597302] cfg80211_mlme_deauth+0x9f/0x170 [cfg80211] [ 8976.597305] ? blkfront_setup_indirect+0x923/0xd30 [ 8976.597318] nl80211_deauthenticate+0x124/0x160 [cfg80211] [ 8976.597320] genl_family_rcv_msg+0x1dd/0x3c0 [ 8976.597324] ? kfree+0x14a/0x160 [ 8976.597326] genl_rcv_msg+0x59/0xa0 [ 8976.597327] ? genl_register_family+0x620/0x620 [ 8976.597329] netlink_rcv_skb+0xa4/0xc0 [ 8976.597330] genl_rcv+0x28/0x40 [ 8976.597332] netlink_unicast+0x18c/0x220 [ 8976.597333] netlink_sendmsg+0x2f7/0x3b0 [ 8976.597337] ? aa_sock_msg_perm+0x61/0x150 [ 8976.597339] sock_sendmsg+0x38/0x50 [ 8976.597340] ___sys_sendmsg+0x2c2/0x2d0 [ 8976.597342] ? __set_task_blocked+0x3c/0xa0 [ 8976.597344] ? __set_current_blocked+0x42/0x70 [ 8976.597347] ? __fpu__restore_sig+0x9b/0x540 [ 8976.597349] __sys_sendmsg+0x54/0x90 [ 8976.597351] SyS_sendmsg+0x12/0x20 [ 8976.597353] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath+0x1e/0xad [ 8976.597355] RIP: 0033:0x7fd1ef74be37 [ 8976.597355] RSP: 002b:7ffd3a9650f8 EFLAGS: 0246 ORIG_RAX: 002e [ 8976.597357] RAX: ffda RBX: 564e6a544f9
[Bug 1702961] Re: Intel wifi instability with 4.10 and Intel Device 24fd
I'm on Zesty and my syslogs are chock-full of those sta.c:1523 stacktraces. Below is the `lshw -c network` section that pertains to my wireless card. This may or may not be related as it's a different wireless card; or perhaps, rather it's an issue that affects multiple Intel cards? My oldest syslog are on 4.10.0-35 and I'm now on 4.10.0-37 with same issue. I also found this forum thread that suggests it might be an issue with the Intel wireless firmware? https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2370912 *-network description: Wireless interface product: Wireless 8265 / 8275 vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:04:00.0 logical name: wlp4s0 version: 88 serial: 00:28:f8:58:b2:e0 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwlwifi driverversion=4.10.0-37-generic firmware=22.391740.0 ip=10.131.157.247 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11 resources: irq:131 memory:ec10-ec101fff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1702961 Title: Intel wifi instability with 4.10 and Intel Device 24fd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe/+bug/1702961/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1702961] Re: Intel wifi instability with 4.10 and Intel Device 24fd
I'm now on the 4.11.0-10-generic kernel, and have not seen this failure again. However, I'll leave it up to the kernel team to see if they want to pursue this further. You can install this kernel on Xenial by installing linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge. More information is available https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack If you have enough time to do a git bisect so we can pull the commit back into official kernels that would be really helpful.
