[Bug 17316] Re: Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized"
How does a fresh installation fare? Does the process seem applicable to Ubuntu? ** Changed in: backuppc (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium => Undecided Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 17316] Re: Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized"
Some comments.. The version in 'hardy' is 3.0.0-4ubuntu1. The Installation process is smooth and displays a nice amount of help. - man backuppc still dispays the original backuppc documentation. - The Debian/Ubuntu documentation installed in '/usr/share/doc/backuppc' is very useful. - dpkg-reconfigure still only asks one question (same). -- Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 17316] Re: Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized"
A discussion in the forums generated a few useful links and a couple of suggested HOWTOs for installing BackupPC. Some information from these might be incorporated in improved documentation. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=80904 -- Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 17316] Re: Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized"
Confirming, man page can be confusing on Ubuntu, an example: ---begin quote--- Storage layout BackupPC resides in three directories: __INSTALLDIR__ Perl scripts comprising BackupPC reside in __INSTALLDIR__/bin, libraries are in __INSTALLDIR__/lib and documentation is in __INSTALLDIR__/doc. __CGIDIR__ The CGI script BackupPC_Admin resides in this cgi binary directory. __TOPDIR__ All of BackupPC’s data (PC backup images, logs, configuration information) is stored below this directory. Below __TOPDIR__ are several directories: __TOPDIR__/conf The directory __TOPDIR__/conf contains: ---end quote--- As to running configure.pl, my understanding is that it is form compiling the source package only, and is then unnecessary for people using it. My feeling is that what I needed from the man page was: how to change my password with htpasswd, and then knowing that I can get the GUI by going to http://localhost/backuppc/ in my browser. ** Changed in: backuppc (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- Documentation not "Debian-ized" / "Ubuntu-ized" https://launchpad.net/bugs/17316 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
