[Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
The 18 month support period for Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 has reached its end of life - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.10-eol . As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.22 kernel task. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- Boot failure with x86_64 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
Hi Andy, I'm glad to hear this is working for the newer version of Ubuntu. Unfortunately, you'll most likely have to wait for Hardy. It's not a question of importance regarding this bug but rather an issue with available resources to backport a fix. However, I'll leave this report open against linux-source-2.6.22 just in case someone can tackle the backport. Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released -- Boot failure with x86_64 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
I just got a chance to try this. Yes, the hardy alpha 2 kernel *does* boot successfully on this hardware. I didn't try anything beyond starting the install sequence and bouncing to a console to look at dmesg, but this is much farther than the gutsy kernel got. Is there any chance of this being fixed in gutsy, or will I have to wait for hardy? -- Boot failure with x86_64 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . [Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
Unfortunately, those instructions won't work for me as, if the Hardy kernel is the same as the current one, I can't *install* Hardy in order to do package management tasks... Is there an easy way to manually install that kernel somewhere it can be found by a i386 installation? -- Boot failure with x86_64 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 175406] Re: Boot failure with x86_64 kernel
The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and verify if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1 LiveCD was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to manually install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This should not be the case for Alpha2 which is set to come out around Dec 20. However, here are the instructions to install if you choose to do so, otherwise just wait for Alpha2 to come out: 1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted 2) sudo apt-get update 3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic 4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and remove the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . Please update this report with your results.
