If by CompizConfig you mean the compizconfig-settings-manager package, yes it is installed and works fine. I did not change any setting lately but some libdeco package have been updated in the last days, maybe it is related... Which version of Ubuntu are you running? Do you have the CompizConfig tool installed as well? You mention that it worked fine until a few days ago, were there any configuration options that you enabled about that long ago?
