[Bug 1763202] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor

2019-03-02 Thread Kalvin Mizzi
I'm having same issue running kernel 4.18.0-15 on an X1 extreme using
thunderbolt 3 dock gen 2 connected from dock to monitor via HDMI cable.

Display settings detects monitor but monitor shows no signal.

System is dual boot.

Works on Windows, not on Ubuntu

I am waiting to purchase a DisplayPort cable to see if that makes a
difference but otherwise it doesn't work.

Plugging HDMI directly into laptop (not dock) works.

[Bug 1763202] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor

2018-07-10 Thread Georg Tavonius
I am running 4.15.0-24-generic on a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the
same specs, and I am also not able to connect to Dell Montiors at all. I
work at home with a Hyundai (Hitachi) Monitor and it works pretty well,
but on Dell U2415 (and another older Dell model) it does not work. The
display won't get a signal (and xrandr does say no connection).

I tried 2 different HDMI cables on both montiors and with an adapter
from HDMI to usb-c/display port. No luck.

Any ideas?

I should have added, on the Lenovo the cable goes straight into the

I'm using the same cable in both cases, yes. For attaching the Lenovo X1
Carbon (non-working) as well as the XPS 13 Developer Edition (working).
It's a higher quality, thick textile wrapped cable with golden

[Bug 1763202] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor

2018-04-12 Thread Peter Bittner
> Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade?

I can't tell exactly. The system is just a week old, but I recall that
there has been a kernel upgrade. HDMI had some issues (i.e. wouldn't
connect) via Lenovo's docking station last week, it worked today though
when connected to the notebook's HDMI port directly.

I've tried with my somewhat aged (but okay) LG Flatron M2380D-PZ
monitor, and there is some trouble:

- The monitor is apparently detected when (the HDMI cable is attached and) the
monitor is turned on:
- The second monitor shows up in System Settings > Devices > Displays for about
a second. Before that the notebook screen turns black for about half a second.
- Then the second monitor disappears from the Settings again, and the external
monitor shows "No Signal"

That is an issue only since Ubuntu 18.04 (I can't tell whether it's
related to a specific kernel), because the monitor used to work with my
Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition, which is running the very same
configuration of Ubuntu (18.04 LTS developer version) and behaves
similarly now, until Ubuntu 17.10 not too long ago.

I'm a bit reluctant building the latest kernel. If it's really really
important I may give it a shot.

[Bug 1763202] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor

2018-04-12 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.16 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

  I have an X1 Carbon 6th Gen. (Intel Core i7 8th Gen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB
  SSD).

When I try to attach an external monitor via an HDMI cable the monitor
receives no signal. Similarly, when I use the Thunderbold dock and
attach two monitors (one via HDMI, one with DisplayPort) only the
monitor attached with DisplayPort works; the monitor attached with HDMI
  stays black.

- This made me think if this is really a bug in the software. I saw people
- describing this issue with Windows installed; the solution was to hit a
- special key combination. Unfortunately, the multimedia keys all not all
- functional, specifically the F7 key, which seems to meant for "activate
- external monitor", has no function.
