[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor) [possibly radeon related]

2019-11-23 Thread Chris Guiver
This is my main workstation; fully updated 20.04 system.

This glitch in 17.10 used to appear top monitor along left edge, it's
moved as I noted prior comment to the top of some windows (but not all).
In this badly shot video (sorry) it appears as flickering top of
chromium (snap) & audacious windows on screen. There is no flickering
evident on the gnome-terminal, or hexchat windows.

dell [optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

Note: This issue also occurs if I login with MATE as my chosen desktop
(bloated system with many desktops), but NOT Lubuntu (LXQt) or Xubuntu
(I probably should re-check, but I'm positive it doesn't occur there).

** Attachment added: "look at top of audacious & chromium (snap) windows - the
flickering"

[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor)

2019-10-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Update - the glitch appears to have gone, or more correctly moved.

I no longer see it at the left-side of my top monitor, but as it stands
now a `chromium` window has the vertical glitch in it's top 2/5ths of
bar. It won't stand out well in the attached picture (in real life it's
dancing in time with the audacious music), but it behaves as it did in
prior comments. If i pause music, the movement of the 'glitch' almost
stops.

Having taken a screenshot of it & dragged windows around - I no longer
know where the glitch is... It used to be always my top display bottom
left edge, but now it's a window. I suspect now it's related to radeon
drivers.

[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor)

2019-05-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Still the same; on my d960 box, bumped to 19.10 ~9 days after 19.04's
release.

My box still has LXQt (lubuntu-desktop), XFCE (xubuntu-desktop) & MATE
(ubuntu-mate-desktop) installed. I notice this issue also when I use
MATE (I mostly login using LXQt these days).

I have `audacious` playing mp3 music; if it's on screen so the
frequency-volume-bars are on screen (information bar visualization in
audacious view menu) the dancing is far more.

Dancing is not constant; it appears higher (dances more & higher on top
display) the more change occurs on the screens; ie. minimize all windows
and there is minimal movement. As I have more on the displays it dances
more. It's distracting, so I rarely login with gnome.

[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor)

2018-04-24 Thread Chris Guiver
when I login with "xubuntu"; i'm getting glitch (about same width of
pixels; left of (my upper) monitor 2 in the same spot as under GNOME,
but it's static. The colors are varied, a mixture of black, grey-green-
white, brown, white, as if some of a prior wallpaper was left on the
monitor when my selected wallpaper was drawn.

Changing wallpaper does nothing, the edge of the wallpaper is always
just to the right of the 'glitch' and never covers it.

OF NOTE:

 ---
 |--
 |-- (top monitor 2nd)
---(bottom first monitor, to left of upper one)
   ---
   ---

Of note however, if I open a window (terminator, settings or any window) and
drag it to the left of the screen - it pauses at the edge of the 'wallpaper'
and doesn't cover the glitch! If I push further on the window (after
resistance) it then covers the glitch before the left side of my window
disappears off screen. This is possibly significant.

[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor)

2018-04-23 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

-
-- BACKGROUND info -- (ie. skip!)
I upgraded to 18.04 last night from 17.10 (Ubuntu with GNOME, but also XFCE &
MATE DEsktops were installed). I logged in last night & noticed nothing
unusual (slow login, crash & apport bug report made [duplicate]). Otherwise
upgrade was perfect. Last night I only used MATE.
  -- END background

- Today I logged into GNOME (first login since upgrade), my screen config
- was changed (as if side-by-side) so I altered to match my config - and
- now on top (secondary) screen left side of screen I get this few pixel
- wide graphic 'bar' type glitch.
+ Today I logged into GNOME (first login since upgrade), my screen
+ positional config was changed (as if side-by-side) so I altered to match
+ my config - and now on top (secondary) screen left side of screen I get
+ this few pixel wide graphic 'bar' type glitch.

- It alters with screen-draws; having minimal movement is nothing on
- screen is drawing. If you move mouse it jumps more, if you move windows
- the movement is even more - when I start music (audacious) which has a
- graphic audio metre (dancing with music) I get lots of activity on the
- glitch-bar.
+ It appears to dance when something moves on the screen (eg. cursor
+ movement, or audio-metre bars on mp3 player (audacious). Moving the
+ cursor alone causes minimal 'dance' in the glitch, moving a window
+ around causes a lot higher-faster dance in the glitch. When I start
+ music (audacious) with the audio metre (dancing with music) I get lots
+ of activity on the glitch-bar; if music is stopped (audio-metre is
+ static) glitch becomes minimal.

- If I move audacious below (top) screen it still acts as if on screen (my
- screen placement i think is reason for this), but if I minimize the
- window the glitch has minimal movement, likewise if I move audacious to
- lower (primary) screen and move the bar off display.
+ If I move audacious below screen (or out of display) screen it still
+ acts as if on screen (my screen placement i think is reason for this;
+ top right 1/3 of screen is to right of below screen; left 1/3 of bottom
+ screen is to left top screen), but if I minimize the window the glitch
+ has minimal movement, likewise if I move audacious to lower (primary)
+ screen and move the bar off display.

As stated, the vertical-graphic-lines-glitch appears to be related to
movement or redrawing of stuff on screen. If I stop music and have
~everything static but type into the `hexchat` screen on the bottom, the
vertical-graphic-lines-glitch jumps on each keypress (or its being
written to screen). If i hit random keys quickly the jumping movement
  is faster than slow keypresses

If I make no movements, glitch still has movement; maybe 2-4 moves per
second., but a fraction of the 'jumps' (or movement) of when there is
  graphic movement.

OF NOTE: As I type this into chromium, the 'glitch' is the smallest its
been and NOT moving to each keystroke which is different behavior to
- terms, hexchat etc.
+ terms, hexchat etc. When I first login, its not evident, it takes a few
+ minutes to become visible.

- This behavior is only evident in GNOME.
+ This behavior is only evident in GNOME (on X)
