[Bug 1770827] Re: GDM doesn’t use alternative for lock screen

2018-05-12 Thread Remco Haszing
My Gnome theme is Awaita-dark, but I don’t see how this is related.

/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css is a symlink to /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css is configured using update-alternatives
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css by default is a symlink to
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css in my case is a symlink to
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/trinity.css

Modifying /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css (aka
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css) impacts the login screen
Modifying /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css impacts the lock screen
By default this is the same as the login screen.

I would expect the lock screen to also use gdm3.css instead of
ubuntu.css.

[Bug 1770827] Re: GDM doesn’t use alternative for lock screen

2018-05-12 Thread Tim Lunn
the gdm greeter/login screen and the lock screen are mostly independent.

The gdm greeter runs its own instance of gnome-shell running in a
special gdm mode.

The lock screen is drawn by the current gnome-shell session and thus
uses the current gnome-shell theme.

What gnome-shell theme are you using? I assume it is not adwaita.
probably what you want to is to set the alternative to your gnome-shell
theme
