[Bug 1771716] Re: Resuming resets my session
This keeps happening every two-three times I close then open my laptop's lid. It means I lose my work, running VMs, etc, about 3 times per work week. If there is anything I can do to help solve this bug please let me know, thanks! ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771716 Title: Resuming resets my session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1771716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The crash just happened again, and here are 3 fresh new files in my /var/crash, whose date matches exactly the time of the crash: _usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.1000.crash _usr_bin_Xwayland.120.crash _usr_bin_gnome-shell.120.crash About the first one I submitted this bug and marked it as a duplicate: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1772362 About the second one a bug already existed, confirmed with "Medium" importance: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1731911 About the third one I was told that I have out-of-date packages, I am updating now. Please note that this is a fresh install of the recently released 18.04, and updates are set to "weekly" so it can't be crazy old either :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771716 Title: Resuming resets my session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1771716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1771716] Re: Resuming resets my session
** Description changed: I installed 18.04 from scratch a day after it got released. Twice per day I close the lid of my laptop and open it again after. Usually it immediately asks me for the password and brings me back to what I was doing. - But 3 times so far, it took a minute before showing me a logging screen + But 3 times so far, it took a minute before showing me a login screen (like if I had not yet a session) asking me to choose my user (there is only one user), then enter my password. It then starts to load... and asks me for my password AGAIN. Then it shows my desktop, but everything I was doing before is gone, no more open windows. When I start Firefox it asks me whether I want to restore my tabs. When I open Byobu it shows my tabs as I left them. [Bug 1771716] Re: Resuming resets my session
Actually asking for the password twice in "then enter my password. It then starts to load..." might also be another shell/session crash. Regardless, please follow the above instructions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771716 Title: Resuming resets my session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1771716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771716] Re: Resuming resets my session
Sounds like you have two bugs. Asking for the password twice is bug 1765261. But it sounds like you also have a crash causing your lost session so... - Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one, please follow these steps: 1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the workaround from bug 994921. 2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport. 3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from /etc/gdm3/custom.conf: # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes #Enable=true 4. Reboot. 5. Reproduce the crash. 6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash 7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step 6. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771716 Title: Resuming resets my session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1771716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
