Thank you for your prompt response.  Proserver is a data backup server 
from Code42 (code42.com).  In this case, the installation is relatively 
old (2 years?) and I'm sure that more modern versions comply better with 
standard coding practices.

I had begun to suspect this process as the problem, too.  I'll disable 
it before attempting to upgrade again.

Problem is not with mdadm at all, that configured fine.

The problem is with init.d script proserver, which is missing LSB
headers and thus cannot be ordered due to a circular dependency.

I do not know what proserver, is. But please either fix it by adding LSB
headers, or remove/disable it for the upgrade.
