[Bug 177880] Re: compiz prevents mouse from using edgemost pixels

2007-12-21 Thread Schalken

** Attachment added: "Red indicated pixels where you can't click. Note that
bottom left pixel is green (works)."
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11019275/screenedges.png

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

When using Compiz in Ubuntu Gutsy, click's where the cursor is occupying
- a pixel on the very edge of the screen do not register, while click's in
- the corner pixels of the screen work fine.
+ a pixel on the very edge of the screen do not register.

When using Metacity, I can swing my mouse to the very bottom of the
screen (on a pixel on the very edge) and click to open a window in the
window list. (Hence making use of Fitt's law which says clickable areas
that occupy many pixels in the corners or edges of the screen can be
considered of infinite size - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitt%27s_Law)
Similarly, I can swing my mouse to the right and click to scroll the
scrollbar in Firefox (when maximized), or swing it to the top left to
  open one of the menus.

However, I can't do this in Compiz because clicks when the cursor is on
the very edge of the screen do not work, and applications possibly do
not even know the cursor is there since scrollbars (eg. with Firefox)
and buttons (eg. the window list) do not show the mouse-over/hover
highlight. The corner pixels still work, however, so I can still easily
click on the buttons/menu in the corners of the screen (Apps, Log Out,
Trash, Show Desktop) but only by swinging the mouse to the cornermost
  pixel.

I'll attach a picture to illustrate the 'dead areas' of clicking when
  Compiz is being used.
