[Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)

2018-08-15 Thread Andy Stable
Still no hangs/freezes/crashes in the last week so looks like issue
either fixed in upstream kernel or was fixed in Skype/VCC!

uname -a
Linux GA-MA785GMT-UD2H 4.18.0-041800rc8-generic #201808052031 SMP Sun Aug 5
20:32:53 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I guess this could be marked "Fix released"

[Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)

2018-08-11 Thread Andy Stable
Been running a few days on latest 4.18.0-041800rc8 and so far no crashes, so a
tentative "fixed" might be appropriate now. Of course this message may be just
the curse needed to replicate the issue! (I'll update if so)

I'm still none the wiser as to what might have been fixed or what caused the
issue in the first place

[Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)

2018-08-06 Thread Andy Stable
Done.
Latest linux-headers have dependency on libssl1.1
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/amd64/libssl1.1/download whichis not
available in 16.04 but no problem installing that manually. Now will wait and
see if issue returns, may take a few days.

2018-08-06 Thread Andy Stable
Impossible to tie it down to upgrade or specific action or app at this
point, been happening unpredictably over last month or so, it could be
related to recent requirement to use Skype/VCC for workI'll try
installing the latest upstream mainline and see how it goes and let you
know. May take while as I can't reliably reproduce the issue, usually
seems to happen during computer idle time mid work session

[Bug 1785480] Re: Xorg freeze (kernel general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP)

2018-08-06 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
