If you look at debian upstream then you will see that people are hard at work packaging fuppes. ** Description changed: FUPPES (Free UPnP Entertainment Service) is a UPnP media server/renderer used to stream media to UPnP devices (eg. Xbox 360, PS3, ...). It would be nice to have fuppes available directly in Ubuntu, especially as there are quite a lot of dependencies which makes it non- trivial for a new user to install. [Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
On second thoughts, the best idea is probably to have a fuppes package in the main ubuntu repos which doesn't have video-transcoding support, and a separate fuppes package in the medibuntu repo which pulls in the medibuntu ffmpeg package and does have full video transcoding support. I still haven't had any luck getting anyone to review the fuppes package on the ubuntu side though, so not a lot I can actually do on this... -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Lee Forgive me if i am wrong but i am able to build this package on hardy with transcoding support can you please clarify on your remarks above i too would love to see this package in ubuntu. -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
To build fuppes with transcoding support (including support for non-free formats such as MPEG4 video, AAC, MP3, etc.) requires a version of ffmpeg with those formats compiled in. The ffmpeg binaries in the Ubuntu repositories don't for legal reasons. IIRC fuppes will actually build with transcoding enabled against the ffmpeg binaries in the Ubuntu repos, but at runtime it will display transcoding disabled and transcoding will not work. For it to work, ffmpeg needs to be built from scratch with support for non-free codecs enabled. As I said above, I still think fuppes is useful even without transcoding support and shoud be in the repos. People requiring transcoding support can compile it for themselves. -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
Has work on this stopped? I haven't seen any progress in a while and I didn't see it make it out of REVU. -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
Progress on this stopped because no-one was willing to review the latest version of the package in REVU, and the deadline for 8.04 then passed. However there's also the more fundamental issue that since the ffmpeg libraries in Ubuntu are built without support for non-free formats, and therefore the version of fuppes needs to be built without support for all these codecs. This does mean that a packaged version of fuppes for Ubuntu would be somewhat less useful that one built from scratch against a recompiled ffmpeg (depending on what people are doing with it). I still think fuppes should make it into the Ubuntu repositories (albeit without video transcoding support), and I'd be happy to pick up any comments from REVU and get the package submitted. As a separate (but larger) issue, it would be nice if ffmpeg could be repackaged in such a way that free and non-free versions existed in the Ubuntu repositories -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I would also appreciate to have that app packaged. I've tried your hardy version, but I get Dependency is not satisfiable: libfaad-0 On my system I do have libfaad0. [Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
Do you mean that you tried to build a binary package using pbuilder from the source package in REVU? This isn't currently working due to broken dependencies in the ilbfaad packages (and possibly others). I believe this is being worked on (independently of this bug). -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
Well first of all I've tried to build it from myself from the orignal source from the author's homepage. After that I found your deb package for gutsy and hardy. I've tried to install it, but got the mentioned missing dependency. Do you know why I get that? Thanks Ralph James Lee wrote: Do you mean that you tried to build a binary package using pbuilder from the source package in REVU? [Bug 180703] Re: [needs-packaging] fuppes
The latest gutsy package in my PPA (which is version ~gutsy6) should install fine on gutsy (but it won't install on hardy, as the libfaad2 has been renamed to libfaad). Note that the earlier versions in the gutsy archive were broken, so do try with the latest one. The hardy version in my PPA is broken because the initial upload didn't have a ~hardyn appended to the version, and there isn't any way to remove it from the PPA. -- [needs-packaging] fuppes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

O I see. I'm using hardy. I guess I have to wait for a hardy version. For your information, I came across the site below with a ubuntu package that is working on my hardy system http://linux.vanvalkinburgh.org/ Cheers and keep up to great work.
