Yes, looks like the USB stick is probably corrupt.
Running:
  cmp ubuntu-18.10-desktop-amd64.iso /dev/sdc
Gives a different byte at about 117M.
Don't have a different USB-stick handy at the moment, so will try later.
For now, I guess this report can be changed to 'invalid'.
(Or it may be turned into a wishlist to generate a somewhat more helpful error 
message in cases like these...)

The log has those warnings
'SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt'

It does sound like an I/O problem maybe with the usb stick being used,
could you try with another device?
