[Bug 181386] Re: LiveCD monitor resolution too high

2008-04-01 Thread Colin Watson
People often seem confused about this, but the live CD does nothing
special with X configuration; it just reconfigures the xserver-xorg
package for the current hardware. Any monitor resolution detection
problems are xorg's responsibility, regardless of whether they happen on
the live CD or not.

Please try with 8.04 beta, there's been a lot of changes that might
help.

[Bug 181386] Re: LiveCD monitor resolution too high

2008-03-31 Thread Thomas Detoux
I confirm this bug.

Step to reproduce :
- Use an unbranded monitor (or a monitor that fails to inform the OS of its
maximum resolution)
- Use a graphic card that support a higher resolution than your monitor support.

My guess : the liveCD use by default the maximum reslution supported by the
graphic card.
Suggestion : either use a reasonable default resolution (like 800x600) and let
the user increase it afterward or start with the higher resolution and decrease
it until the user see and click on a
you-have-thirty-seconds-to-click-ok-if-you-can-see-this-message-or-the-resolution-will-be-decreased'
 like message.
