[Bug 183061] Re: Linksys WUSB54GS v2 does not work with ubuntu

2009-04-14 Thread 0vermind
Hey guys, sorry. My email has been acting a little weird lately and
sometimes I don't get messages, other times they are delayed by several
days.

Anyways, I got the notification that you guys were still wondering if
this was a problem.

You can mark this bug as Complete->Solved. Thanks to Rob Duff who
uploaded the files that I didn't have, you guys have long since fixed
this problem in the last version of Ubuntu!

You guys rock man! Keep up the good work, and I sincerely apologize for
not getting to you guys sooner and letting you know that it has been
fixed.

Thanks!!

Michael

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 183061] Re: Linksys WUSB54GS v2 does not work with ubuntu

2008-09-13 Thread Rob Duff
The device I am having problems with is a WUSB54GS v2.1 instead of a
v2.0, but I imagine it's not worth opening another bug until it's
determined whether or not it is a unique problem. (Note that the S on
the end denotes Speed Booster technology.. Really not sure if that
affects compatibility or not...)

When the device is plugged in to the USB port, there is no power or link
light. It flashes for a split second and then disappears. Looking in
the logs attached, it does appear to be detected by the system, although
it ends up with "bad CDC descriptors".

Unfortunately the HOWTO's didn't work for me. I may give them another
try before I attempt to return the device.

[Bug 183061] Re: Linksys WUSB54GS v2 does not work with ubuntu

2008-08-27 Thread 0vermind
** Description changed:

The Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Speed Booster Version
2.0 (MODLE: WUSB54GS v2.0) is not detected under Ubuntu 64-bit at all
(and therefor doesn't work one bit). In Ubuntu 32-bit, it is detected
but does not work properly without an extreme amount of work and
countless free hours of your time to make it work. As stated earlier, in
Ubuntu 32-bit it is extremely hard to get the WUSB54GS v2.0 working if
you even succeed at all, the only way A FEW PEOPLE have gotten this
adapter to work is through the ndiswrapper and I can not get it to work
  at all in Ubuntu.

It is suppose to be supported by the Network Manager right? I mean the
WUSB54G v4 is but it has a problem connecting after Ubuntu 7.04. I've
noticed that (along with many other people all over the net and Ubuntu
forums who state the same thing) since after Ubuntu 7.04 the network
manager does NOT function nearly as well. Sure it has built-in wireless
but it's not detecting hardware like it used to. It used to be that all
you had to do was install Ubuntu (this is around 6.10-7.04) and it would
work. Pesto, enter your WEP/WPA/WPA2 key and you are good to go! No
driver hassle, no ndiswrapper, no complicating steps, and no
workarounds. It simply just worked. Then something changed and from then
on, the network manager hasn't worked as well. Devices are being
detected, some will but no matter how hard you try they will not keep a
connection. Some hardware won't even work at all!

- As the case with WUSB54GS 2.0 it's detected but that's as far as it gets
- without some serious hard work and hours upon hours of free time to make
- it work. What happened? Why doesn't it work correctly? And why doesn't
- it work at all in 64-bit?

+ *As it stands:
+ In both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 the network manager
doesn't even detect the WUSB54GS v2.0 at all. And it doesn't seem to be
registering plug and play for network devices. For example, I boot without the
wireless usb adapter plugged in, when I log in, plug it in and nothing
happeneds. Also, I had a SMC Wireless-G usb device that worked with Ubuntu 8.04
(with poor single though). Now it doesn't work either as of Ubuntu 8.10. What
the crap is going on? Why are more things braking then you seem to be fixing?
Please! I need internet on Ubuntu! As it stands, sadly, I classify (and many
other people if they saw Ubuntu 8.10) as worse than Vista. At least on Vista I
can get internet to work. In this day and age, if you don't have internet, your
computer isn't work crap. Seriously.

[Bug 183061] Re: Linksys WUSB54GS v2 does not work with ubuntu

2008-08-27 Thread 0vermind
Hey guys,
I still see this problem in Ubuntu 8.10 (at least for the 64-bit edition). I am
going to try the 32-bit edition right now and I will report back on that. But
why doesn't the WUSB54GS v2.0 not work at all on 64-bit ubuntu? It works just
fine on Windows. I know Windows is completely different from Ubuntu but Windows
is still an operating system. Ubuntu is an operating system, so technically
anything one OS can do another can do provided the effort is acheived.

Now I'm demanding, as I don't code operating systems (I do however code
for Windows), I can't tell you what to do and what not to do but I do
know that getting the WUSB54GS v2.0 to work is possible. Back in Ubuntu
7.04 it was working PERFECTLY fine, just installed Ubuntu and it worked
just like that, no extra work. It just simply worked. Now we are at
Ubuntu 8.10 now and I don't see that anymore. You install Ubuntu and it
DOES NOT WORK. It simply does not work without intense work and
complications and frustration and hours on Google to get to work. On
64-but Ubuntu no matter how many hours you work on it, it won't work.

See how big of a problem this is? Please I would like to help in every
way I possibly can!! What information do you need? What version of
Ubuntu do you need information from? 32-bit, 64-bit or both (since they
both are not working)?

Thanks!

I am very interested in helping get this problem fixed for Ubuntu! How should I

If you are still interested in helping this be fixed, would you kindly
include the information requested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHardwareDetection as separate

It won't be fixed in Gutsy (7.10), and it's almost certainly too late to
fix it for Hardy (8.04) if it isn't already fixed, but if you'd like it
fixed for Intrepid we need some information.

I have a Linksys WUSB 54G using Ubuntu 7.10. The Network Manager says
there is a good signal. It even sees other password protected signals
from other wireless routers. However, it won't accept my password. After
processing the code for a minute or two the same Network Manager window
appears with a blank password space. The same thing happens if I try
using the Radar Wifi. Any suggestions on how I can get this to work?

I am using Ubuntu 64-bit, and I was told that it was better, faster, and
more secure and that drivers were not a problem. And now I found find
out that it is a problem?!???

I still don't understand why you guys took out Linksys wireless support
since Ubuntu 7.10 it doesn't make any sence at all. Do you guys not like
Linksys? 7.04 was the best thing that ever happened to me in the Ubuntu
world, everything actually worked!!

**SIGH**
I did try that link don't get me wrong I spent a whole day trying to get
Wireless on Ubuntu. It's not working.

I think I am gonna stay with Ubuntu 7.04 just downgrade. Bleh, Operating
Systems always get worse they never get better they have a strong point
then decline from there. I see it in Windows I'm starting to see it in
Ubuntu. Apple is where I will go now, they are perfect. For now I'll
just stick with 7.04.

I use this adapter with ndiswrapper. The guide below a great help:

After following the above guide I have been very impressed with the
performance of the adapter. Though I do agree it would be great if
Linksys developed Linux drivers for this adapter.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information.

Please include the information requested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHardwareDetection as separate
attachments.

Additionally, it would be useful to describe what steps you have taken
to determine that this adapter doesn't work. For example, does it not
show up in System->Administration->Network->Connections at all? Does it
show up but network manager shows no networks? Does network manager
show networks, but fails to connect?
