Indeed it does happen with all the other USB ports. I will buy a new mouse. It is doubtful that it was a software issue as I thought. Thanks for that kernel log. It looks like a faulty mouse (or port) to me. Try a different USB port. "HID 1241:" is my mouse. Occasionally I plug it out and put it back in again. Please don't be concerned if the logs show this. Since this mouse works perfectly when I boot up Windows on my computer, I was sure it was an Ubuntu software issue. But I tested a different mouse on Ubuntu, and I had no problems. Nevertheless, before buying a replacement mouse, I would like to see if I can make my current one work. Just now, I was using my mouse on Ubuntu and it stopped responding entirely. Please reproduce the problem again and then immediately run this command in a Terminal window: dmesg > dmesg.txt That will create a new file called 'dmesg.txt'.
