[Bug 183761] Re: reported to http://www.protonic.com "getting error message installing computertemp"

2008-01-21 Thread Johnathon
Hi,

Firehol is quite a complex & powerful firewalling program, I would be
surprised if a new Linux user would be able to administer it. (It is
Command Line Only, no graphical interface).

Yes, the problem here, was that at some point you tried to install
firehol, and for some reason that failed. (There are a whole raft of
reasons that it may have failed.)

You need to sort out the failed install thats basically, confusing your
computer, before you can install anything else.

To do this, open a terminal, and enter the following command:
apt-get purge firehol

That should completely remove firehol from your system. After that, you
should be able to install computertemp.

I hope that helps,

Johnathon

2008-01-21 Thread Koen Beek
Hi jhmac77,

I'm closing this bug on your request and as we don't have enough
information to determine what the exact problem was/is.

Looking at the error message you posted it is likely that something went
wrong with the installation of firehol and apt-get or synaptic is retrying the
install each time you use them.
As Adolfo suggested it may be worth trying to remove and reinstall firehol if
you want to keep using it (it is not installed by default in ubuntu)
This can be done by doing a :
 sudo apt-get purge firehol
 sudo apt-get install firehol

it may be that firehol installation prompted for an answer if it did not find
/etc/init.d/firehol from an earlier installation. (default action results in an
error -> action N needed to select new conf file) -- see bug 137430

Right now you don't have firehol installed. That's the problem. Firehol
was not correctly installed (maybe a bug) so you can not install any
other package until the problem with firehol is fixed.

Easiest way to fix that is removing firehol, and try to install it
again.

Anyway, you don't have firehol installed.

And this should be marked as not a bug, at least not in computertemp
package.

[Bug 183761] Re: reported to http://www.protonic.com "getting error message installing computertemp"

2008-01-20 Thread Adolfo González Blázquez
Hello,

If you read carefully the error message, you'll find out that the problem is
caused by package "firehol".
Remove firehol (sudo apt-get remove firehol) and then do "sudo apt-get update
&& sudo apt-get install computertemp"

That should make computertemo installable.

2008-01-20 Thread jhmac77
Actually I found computertemp on my 7.10 Ubuntu, but it would not install.
That's why I am reporting this bug as Peter said it was a bug. I also tried to
install the download from the internet but it would not install but gave the
above error message. "E: firehol: subprocess post-installation script
returned error exit status 1"
Universe is checked.

[Bug 183761] Re: reported to http://www.protonic.com "getting error message installing computertemp"

2008-01-20 Thread Koen Beek
There is an ubuntu package called computertemp in gutsy (ubuntu 7.10) -
previous versions did not have this package yet

what version of ubuntu are you using ? (type lsb_release -a in a
terminal or look at System->About Ubuntu)

If you are using Ubuntu Gutsy then you should be able to install the
computertemp package

it might be that the universe repository is not activated (go to
System->Administration->Software Sources and verify that the (universe)
checkbox has been checked

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in computertemp.
