Vlc does not even show any GUI, it simply seems to crash. I noticed vlc stopped working after an automatic upgrade today of xserver: xserver-xorg-core (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8) to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg- 12ubuntu8.2 When above xerver version is forced back to 8, vlc works again. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 183969 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183969 The update of today fixes vlc: xserver-xorg-core (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.1) to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.3 Note that X has to be restarted though for the new xserver code to work.
