[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-12-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please open two Terminal windows.

In one run:

  dmesg -w

In the other run:

  journalctl -f

Now wait and reproduce the freeze a few times. Each time look at those
two Terminal windows and tell us if you see any particular messages just
after each freeze.

I don't have any specific hint for what to look at in the journal no,
just hints of what the problems could be. You can switch drivers in
software-properties-gtk

[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-11-14 Thread Pål Bergström
Seems to be an issue with the graphics drivers.

Is it easy to uninstall 100% and go back to default drivers if wanted?
Like to have as clean installation as possible but if this helps I might
give it a try.

[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-11-14 Thread Pål Bergström
Problem is still present. Happened when running ClamAV, that took up a
lot of memory so that's one thing to change but I had the same setup in
19.04. Can also appear in FireFox (70.0.1, used a lot) when using
Twitter. Perhaps a js running away? Will take a closer look in the
console next time. I also had VSCode open (runs js right?). I'm not an
expert but something around memory and multitasking is wrong in 19.10
that wasn't there in 19.04.

Instead of posting all of journalctl what should I look for? Thanks.

[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-11-13 Thread Pål Bergström
Didn't know what to include. It's long even if I do -d. But I found an
error with dmar. Not sure what it stands for but it led me to turn of
virtualization in BIOS. Crossing my fingers but it seems better. Though
some apps start very slow compared to 19.04 like FileZilla and FreeCAD.
Could be another thing or. Will see. The problem has been kind of
irrational.

[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-11-11 Thread Pål Bergström
Thank you for taking the time. I have a hard time pinpointing the exact
moments it happens. It's a short freeze, then it works again.
Irrational. Didn't happen in 19.04. One occasion is when working with
LibreOffice Version: 6.3.2.2 and Calc. When opening a document from
inside Calc it happened when scrolling down a long list to find the
right one and the window "rendering" (not an expert) seemed to have a
problem keeping up. Mouse freeze for a millisecond. Also when opening
Calc and trying to do something inside to fast, like moving the mouse to
the menu before it's done opening and rendering the window content, the
mouse freeze for a millisecond and work again. If you see what I mean.

[Bug 1851349] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-11-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Can you corolate the freezes with
specific actions or e.g I/O use? Could look if there is anything printed
in the journalctl logs at the time of the hang? Could you try if it's
happening on a wayland session as well?
