Hi Chris,Thank you for writing.Actually I am struggling to make my HP Envy laptop, dual boot with Ubuntu since quite a few days.Initially I tried installing latest 18.04.3 using live USB; my installation went through however windows 10 started booting by default and there was no change in behaviour even after disabling secure boot. Over the period of time I realized that it has something to do with GRUB installation as during booting I was not able to see GRUB coming into action. While I was still trying to find a resolution of this issue, my live USB booting started giving me errors saying "EFI boot failed" and again I was clueless. Meanwhile, I found this link:https://www.lifewire.com/fix- uefi-bootloader-issues-when-dual-booting-2200655which I thought was worth trying, so I tried installing Ubuntu again from already available USB stick which was smaller in size and it was already having that older Ubuntu image and that is where I landed in this error.By the way, following the link above when I tried using efibootmgr command after booting from older version of live usb stick, I was surprised to see that "Ubuntu" was missing there in list. Now, I am back to the same position and thinking to start the process all over again!I would highly appreciate any suggestions in this regards.Thanks,Shrenik.From: Chris Guiver <1855...@bugs.launchpad.net>Sent: Wed, 04 Dec 2019 08:45:39To: shrenik.ss@rediffmail.comSubject: [Bug 1855004] Grub install failed and installer crashedThank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to makeUbuntu better. This is a support comment & suggestion only. Is there a reason youdidn't use the latest 18.04.3 which uses the HWE stack and thus haslater kernel, modules & X support. If you didn't want the hardwareenablement stack to be used, fair enough.I didn't see a glaring issue on why you got your errorsDec 3 20:07:28 ubuntu ureadahead[1063]: ureadahead:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gconv/gconv-modules.cache: Error retrieving chunk extents: Operation not supportedDec 3 20:07:28 ubuntu ureadahead[1063]: ureadahead:/usr/lib/ibus/ibus-engine-simple: Error retrieving chunk extents: Operation not supported..Dec 3 20:07:28 ubuntu ureadahead[1063]: ureadahead:/etc/sane.d/epsonds.conf: Error retrieving chunk extents: Operation not supportedDec 3 20:07:28 ubuntu ureadahead[1063]: ureadahead:/usr/bin/unsquashfs: Error retrieving chunk extents: Operation not supportedbut in your case I'd try the later Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS which uses HWE(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack)--You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bugreport.https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1855004Title: Grub install failed and installer crashedStatus in grub-installer package in Ubuntu: NewBug description: On a pre-installed windows 10 HP laptop, Grub installation failed and installer crashed.
