Musictracker has a new upstream, and is now known as pidgin- musictracker. Changing sourcepackage. Upsteam says they have fixed this, and I can verify with 0.4.8. What's the format string in Musictracker for your updated status? Mine is %m %r: %t by %p on %a (%d - %b), and it displays "♫ Rhythmbox: Rebirth '"``' It**s by Galneryus on Beyond The End Of Despair... (1:51 - -|)" when I set the name of the song to the garbage seen.
