*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876065 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065 The patch did not resolve the issue for me, and the bug is still there. I just upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 on a Dell Latitude E6230, and there was no sound output, with the sound settings showing only 'Dummy output'. I had to do a fresh reinstall of 18.04 which was extremely time- consuming. The same problem had occurred for me in the summer on a Dell Latitude E7270. I saw then that there were lots of reports of the problem, and it seems inexplicable to me that this has not been fixed. I guess I'll have to start looking for a different Linux distro. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875252 Title: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875252/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers
For the rest of the affected souls here: The patch that I mentioned above has now been incorporated into the Focal proposed updates. To fetch it to your system before it is released in the stable channel, do the following: Enable "Pre-released updates (focal-proposed)" under the tab 'Developer Options' in Software & Updates. Then update the cache before closing Software & Updates. Open Software Updater, fetch, and apply the PulseAudio/dependencies updates (pulseaudio 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.3). Reboot. [Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers
@Alexander (klimat-88) The fix is for HDA Intel soundcard built-in audio. Couldn't find what is your soundcard from your bug report. Wait for the coders to respond to your bug report. As far as I know, you may try undoing all these: "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.con, add "blacklist snd_soc_skl" And then apply the patch. Or uninstall and reinstall PulseAudio. Then enable "Pre-released updates (focal-proposed)" under the tab 'Developer Options' in Software & Updates. Then update the cache before closing Software & Updates. Open Software Updater, fetch and apply updates. Reboot. Hello! As posted before on this tracking bug (probably the wrong place) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-5.4/+bug/1864871, I have the same issue with an old Toshiba Satellite L450 laptop. I ran the live Ubuntu 20.04 image and the sound was recognized and played well. In Settings I could see the output Internal speakers. Then I installed from within the live image Ubuntu and still have sound. Back then the kernel was 5.4.0-28.32-generic 5.4.30. I've updated Ubuntu last night and surprise. [Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers
I have attached my pulseaudio.log from the tmp folder after commenting and adding that code in pulseaudio.service. Please see if it can be of any help. If I can be of any further help, I am at your service. ** Attachment added: "pulseaudio.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875252/+attachment/5365574/+files/pulseaudio.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875252 Title: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875252/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers

[Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers
I did that but there isn't /tmp folder containing pulseaudio.log. There is a tmp folder but it does not contain any pulseaudio.log. The only file related to pulse is pulseverbose.log in the home folder. If that file can help at all, I'm attaching it to these comment. Otherwise, I keep waiting for further instructions. ** Attachment added: "pulseverbose.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875252/+attachment/5364854/+files/pulseverbose.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875252 Title: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875252/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers
Hui Wang, I'm not sure what you mean by :"comment the line of ExecStart, and copy a new line of ExecStart, and add - and --target=file:/tmp/pulseaudio.log" Could you made it more clear? What do you mean by " copy a new line of ExecStart "? You mean copy the same line I commented and add "- and --target=file:/tmp/pulseaudio.log" ? If not, what do you mean by " a new line of ExecStart" ? If you could just send exactly what I should write so it doesn't cause any more delay in sending you the information you need, that would be great.
