[Bug 1888800] Re: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed
This bug is now closed as Invalid since it does seem to be the issue described in comments #2 and #3. So not a bug, but an interesting point of confusion that other users might encounter. To "fix" it though would be an enhancement request. If you like then we can turn this into an enhancement request... ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100 Title: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Another note (not related to multi-monitor nor Wayland): GTK3 windows kind of "vibrate" at the edges or produce weird shadows when they are loading something or when a modal window appears. I notice that in Firefox, Thunderbird and Eclipse IDE. Maybe it's related to this: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/1931 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100 Title: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1888800] Re: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed
I was mistaken again, fractional scaling works in Wayland after logging out and back in. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100 Title: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1888800] Re: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed
Thanks, Daniel for the answer. 1. I think I was mistaken, when I set the resolution of the external monitor to 2560 ⨉ 1440 while the lid is closed, it persists after opening and closing the lid, both in X11 and Wayland. So I think the behaviour is like that and there is no bug after all. 2. I don't use fractional scaling because the performance is degraded in X11, and fractional scaling doesn't even work in Wayland. In Wayland, scaling values stay 100%, 200%, 300% and so on, nothing changes whether fractional scaling is on or off. I attached a screenshot that shows fractional scaling in Wayland. It shows the scaling values, and that gnome-control-center is scaled to 200% but Firefox and Goldendict (Qt) are not. ** Attachment added: "Wayland_fractional_scaling.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+attachment/5395526/+files/Wayland_fractional_scaling.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100 Title: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1888800] Re: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed
Please: 1. Try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen and tell us if that has the same bug. 2. Tell us if you are using any fractional scaling settings. 3. Mutter/gnome-shell remembers multiple different display configurations. So it sounds like it's just switching configurations when you close the laptop screen (which it might see as disconnected or turned off). If you want that configuration to use 2560 ⨉ 1440 then you may need to set that resolution _while_ the laptop lid is closed. I hope that fixes the issue... ** Tags added: multimonitor ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100 Title: Resolution of external monitor goes back to its default resolution when laptop lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
