The suggestion to set the kernel parameter "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1" worked! Specifically, what I did was: – add "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub – sudo update-grub – reboot (Various other ways of setting this parameter, such as “sudo modprobe psmouse synaptics_intertouch=1”, didn't work for me – “cat /sys/module/psmouse/parameters/synaptics_intertouch” was still returning “–1”.)
