[Bug 1915396] Re: /etc/lsb-release pointing to 18.04 after upgrade to 20.04

2021-10-22 Thread Valentijn Sessink
Francisco: the "diversion" is the giveaway. "oem-release" is a package that
will lock the release number to the original (oem installed) version number. I
don't know why - but I found out yesterday, one of my customers upgraded his
Dell 20.04 to 21.04, only to end up with a recurring "21.04 is available, would
you like to upgrade?". No wonder, if the system itself keeps telling that it's
20.04.
After "apt remove oem-release", version numbers were correct.

Hi again Brian!

The content of /etc/lsb-release is in the first bug description (at the

The output of the command (I executed it with /etc/lsb-release as well)
are:

$ dpkg -S /etc/lsb-release.oem-release
diversion by oem-release from: /etc/lsb-release
diversion by oem-release to: /etc/lsb-release.oem-release

$ dpkg -S /etc/lsb-release
diversion by oem-release from: /etc/lsb-release
diversion by oem-release to: /etc/lsb-release.oem-release
base-files: /etc/lsb-release

What are the contents of /etc/lsb-release? Could you also provide the
output of 'dpkg -S /etc/lsb-release.oem-release'? Thanks in advance.

Your upgrade log indicates that there is a /etc/lsb-release.oem-release
file. Are there any other lsb-release files in /etc? Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1915396] Re: /etc/lsb-release pointing to 18.04 after upgrade to 20.04

2021-02-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1915396/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
