[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-06-12 Thread Amit Shah
In my case, when I issue a 'iwlist scan', it does find the network. On
issuing the command the 2nd time, the network is lost.

I tried this a few times with rmmod'ing and modprobing and checking
this.

I then started knetworkmanager and that app found the network and also
connected to it.

Looks like something changes when 'iwlist scan' is issued.

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-05-12 Thread Jan Hoogenraad
This is actually documented, and intended behavior.
Set status to invalid: it actually is a valid report, but behavior should not
be changed.
From  man iwlist :

PARAMETERS
   scan[ning]
  Give the list of Access Points and Ad-Hoc cells in range, and
  optionally a whole bunch of information about them (ESSID, Qual‐
  ity, Frequency, Mode...). The type of information returned
  depends on what the card supports.
  Triggering scanning is a privileged operation (root only) and
  normal users can only read left-over scan results. By default,
  the way scanning is done (the scope of the scan) is dependant on
  the card and card settings.
  This command take optional arguments, however most drivers will
  ignore those. The option essid is used to specify a scan on a
  specific ESSID. The option last do not trigger a scan and read
  left-over scan results.

** Changed in: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Triaged = Invalid

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-05-11 Thread ace141

I don't use iwl3945, but I have the same bug. I use ar5008X driver installed
with madwifi. It works, but I can't connect and I can't find networks with
iwlist wlan0 scan. I run ubuntu 8.04.
there is no problem on ubuntu 7.10.

best regards.

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-04-27 Thread Diego Iastrubni
The suggested workaround (as described in the form) is:
{{{
sudo echo options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1  /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945
}}}

Then reboot (or unload the driver, and modprobe it once more)

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-04-15 Thread dansch
Same Problem here. Just updated to Hardy. And the Wireless (with
iwl3945) is some kind of unusable. nm-applet won't find any networks. If
I set my network manually it's working, but sometimes I get only a 1
Mb/s, no Broadcast- and Gatewayaddress.

Just tried to rmmod/modprobe the modules like in Bug #205506 still no
change.

dmesg gives me (boot and then turn the Wireless kill switch on):

I'm attaching /var/log/dmesg, that one is surely uncluttered. Right now
the same fenomenon as usual, I can see other networks in NetworkManager
but not with iwlist.

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-03-04 Thread Antonio Pérez Pérez
Ok, playing a bit with the module iwl3945 options, I've managed to get
some scan results (but I don't really know if that option is related to
my problem).

If I disable hardware scan with a modprobe iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1,
it shows my AP with a iwlist scan... but when I try to connect to it,
it gets stuck on it.

A dmesg shows:
[37716.702215] wlan0: Initial auth_alg=0
[37716.702223] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:c0:a8:b4:62:e3

[37732.951261] wlan0: authentication with AP 00:c0:a8:b4:62:e3 timed out

I don't know if this helps... but it's a little bit more than I had
before.

Thanks in advance,
Antonio

There is no info in dmesg when it fails. I have another bug opened about
the problem about not being able to connect, it's bug 159064.

Is there any info about how to change from 1.2.0 to 1.1.17?

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-02-20 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Thomas,

Hrm, it does appear the dmesg cache filled up. Care to capture it
immediately following a fresh reboot? You also mention you notice that
it will sometimes connect and sometimes not. . . . It may be helpful to
capture the dmesg output when you notice it not connecting since more
useful error messages might be logged.

Also just curious if you noticed any difference between the 1.1.17
version and 1.2.0 version of the driver?

Thanks!

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-02-19 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Thomas,

Just a few things:

1) Care to test the latest 2.6.24-8 kernel and verify this issue is still
present.
2) Also, the iwlwifi drivers are included in the kernel now. I believe
however the iwlwifi version is 1.1.17 in the kernel. The linux-ubuntu-modules
package has an updated version of the iwlwifi drivers, version 1.2.0. I assume
you are using the 1.2.0 version and am just curious if you notice any
difference if you use the 1.1.17 version.
3) Finally, if you notice the issue still exists with 2.6.24-8, per the kernel
team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be
sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* uname -a  uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we
appreciate your help and feedback.

I'm not sure that the output from dmesg was what you expected... if you
need /var/log/dmesg also just say.

I still have the problem in 2.6.24-8 but my wlan actually connected OK.
But it has been very intermittent so I wouldn't say it's OK just yet.

When I list the available networks in NetworkManager I could see a
couple of networks but iwlist still shows nothing.
