[Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
I recommend installing the Flash-Aid Firefox plugin. Since I use it, I always get the most up-to-date version for 64bit, and it is installed and updated automatically. The plugin is available for download here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/flash-aid/ I would recommend that the Ubuntu packaging team finds out how Flash-Aid manages to install Flash without any problems and then changes the nspluginwrapper package so that it does the same things that Flash-Aid do. Alternatively, the nspluginwrapper package could install the Flash- Aid plugin by default and let the user do the Flash maintenance via the plugin - that will at least allow most users to use Flash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 Title: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also had a lot of trouble with flash under Ubuntu amd64. I used the flashplugin-nonfree packages etc. Now participating 9.10 beta tests I decided to give adobes 64bit beta version a try - it runs like a champ. No interferences with sound, no crashes anymore, it simply does its job. Try go for Its a pre-release already: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html and put the so file in the proper directory. Re: [Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
The 64-bit version of flash is stable, and it appears to be getting released alongside updates to the 32-bit versions, so I really don't see why Ubuntu still insists on provides 64-bit Ubuntu users with the 32-bit plugin and nspluginwrapper, which has been broken for at least the last 3 releases of Ubuntu. It would be pretty ridiculous if this bug were still in Karmic, and it's this sort of minor but conspicuous snag that stigmatises 64-bit operating systems for desktop users. -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've been using Flash 10 since the moment it became available, which I think was even before Intrepid, so I don't think that this problem is solved simply by 10 (I'm using flashplugin-nonfree: 10.0.15.3ubuntu1~intrepid1 and nspluginwrapper: 1.1.2-0ubuntu1 and the problem has occurred more than once for me in that time). Now I'm waiting for it to occur again with the debug symbols package installed to lend more details to this bug, so I'd like to keep it open a bit longer. ** Changed in: nspluginwrapper (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => In Progress -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
I installed the debugger and enabled it as per Harrison's instructions, but was never able to duplicate a crash. I did, however, upgrade to the new Flash 10 beta (alpha? I can't remember) shortly after that and have been problem-free ever since. Not a solution, but thought I'd mention it. -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for your comments Peter, Would the more comfortable ubuntu users please do the following (trying something a little different here) 1) edit /etc/default/apport and change to enabled=1 and then run /etc/init.d/apport restart 2) Follow steps 1-3 on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash 3) sudo apt-get install nspluginwrapper-dbgsym 4) do what you usually do until flash crashes and upload the apport crash (ignore the bit about "Is the bug you’re reporting one of these? " 5) subscribe harrisony (myself) Thanks in advance! (note your system may become slightly slower with apport running, feel free after you get a crash and uploaded to disable apport. To turn apport off, repeat step one but change it to enabled=0) -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
This still happens very regularly. Flash apps will work for a period of time, and then at some point cross a threshold, at which point they will crash & continue to crash until firefox is fully restarted. The unreliability is terrible - it's a major impediment to Ubuntu being a reliable desktop replacement (it sucks, but flash usage is a major part of any web-enabled session these days). I cannot find a reliable trigger for the bug, but a theme seems to be embedded videos from Youtube or Break.com. -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have no idea, but I have not had it occur lately, i had forgotten about it. One of those things. [Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
I'm not sure why the status of this bug report is invalid because it is still happening. Well, it does not crash anymore when starting up as described in the main post yet does crash sometimes when surfing the web with Firefox. ** Changed in: nspluginwrapper (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The nspluginwrapper has been a pain since 8.10 alpha2, I sure hope this is fixed before the 30th! It crashes all the time. Adobe needs to get 64bit flash out so ns and 32libs are not needed. -- npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()
This last answer is really a bug, it wont solve the problems at all. With Ubuntu it will be solved, it need time and at least we have the help of many of all people in the world with a marvellous comunity. Going to proprietary software is not a solution, it *is* the problem. I only use my Mac G5 for video editing, Ubuntu does everything else better. You (and now we) are way off topic.
