Ubuntu 21.04, same problem here. It seems there are some configuration problems on build host or with debian/control. The Ubuntu package is just the Debian packaging instructions executed on Ubuntu. I still haven't found out how to deviate from that but normally if the Ubuntu package doesn't work the Debian one doesn't either so it might not matter. The packaging instructions can be found in debian/control in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/m/maxima/maxima_5.44.0-3.debian.tar.xz Currently I don't have access to an unarchive to look into them. Has the Maxima package (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maxima/5.44.0-2) maintainer, ~camm-debian, been notified? I don't know if package maintainers are notified automatically about bugs reported against their packages. If not, then we should try to notify him. Does the problem happen with wxMaxima, too? If not I would guess
something chokes on two subsequent slashes ("/") in a pathname.
