(Tried this solution from manoj_isi and it worked - incredible but true...) Solution to kacpid which works fine for me : After booting windows when boot linux kacpid starts, (This seems to be the catalyst for the problem - dual boot going from Windows to linux) to stop it just cut the power supply to your PC including UPS if any , without shutting down (obviously after saving data) i.e. when linux desktop is active. (Did just that - ripped out the power cord and replaced and rebooted) Now power on ur machine, kacpid will not appear. (Problem solved?) I have the same problem with Hardy and the latest kernel (Linux pc1 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux) When it happens, a lot of messages are written to /var/log/messages (see attachment).
