Public bug reported: Sometime around when ZFS was introduced to the installer, when trying to use that option along with an encrypted install, everything would work until first boot. After that it would claim that the password was incorrect, and I was unable to find a reason why.
Doing a reinstall with the new 21.04 I tried the ZFS encrypted install again to see if it would work. I got the same error and happened to trace it down to the backslash character in my password. I tried to escape the backslash with another but that did not work. Finally, when typing the password on boot without the backslash it would work. I have not had the same problem when choosing to install with LVM instead. The same issue arises when trying to unlock the drive using cryptsetup on the emergency console. I have attached the output when trying to use the password I want and the password that works with the --debug option. I am using a Dell XPS 13 9100. 1) Description: Ubuntu 21.04 Release: 21.04 2) ubiquity: Installed: 21.04.19 Candidate: 21.04.19 Version table: *** 21.04.19 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) Be able to set a password with a backslash and have the backslash be in the password when using it to open the drive. 4) The backslash is dropped from the password and the password will not work with it when trying to open the drive. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "IMG-1901.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931474/+attachment/5503615/+files/IMG-1901.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931474 Title: Backslash characters in password for encrypted ZFS installs are ignored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1931474/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
