I'm sorry I no longer participate in this kind of bug solving consisting of doing nothing and asking 5 years later if the bug still exists. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193738 Title: ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/193738/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Do you still have this laptop. 9.10 update - still occurring. [Bug 193738] Re: ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000)
This is a summary of this bug's evolution and a 9.04 beta update. 7.10 : suspend and restore worked (by BIOS) 8.04a5 : (up to) only suspend works; resume crashes 8.04a6 : suspend itself crashes. 8.10 : idem 9.04 : suspend does nothing and X may freeze. A copy of /var/log is attached in two 9.04 cases : log1 : suspend from session menu does not suspend. Ctrl-Alt-F1 goes to a working command line. Ctrl-Alt-F7 sees X restart log2 : suspend from GDM screen causes black screen and frozen X. X was killed and restarted in tty6 before copying /var/log. ** Attachment added: 9.04 update http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24714367/suspend-Tecra8000.9.04.log.tar.gz -- ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 193738] Re: ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000)
I'm having the same problems - on a Tecra M1 laptop. Basically, restart just hangs, suspend and wakeup causes the screen to be exceptionally large with no way to navigate around the screen - only the left top corner is displayed on the screen in very large format. I'm running 8.10 and I was hoping that the kernel upgrade would fix this problem - but regrettably not. -- ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 193738] Re: ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000)
6 months later : 8.10aX : suspend continues to crash. And I wonder what's the use of my reports if regression from 8.04a6 to 8.04a5 was not even considered. Maybe is it because I seem to be the only one speaking in here? -- ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 193738] Re: ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000)
** Summary changed: - ACPI problems with Toshiba Tecra 8000 + ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) ** Description changed: Binary package hint: acpi - I'm trying to introduce Ubuntu in Belarus !!! I'd like a guest child to return to Belarus in August with a nice gift : a clean 8.04 to run on that excellent spare Tecra 8000 laptop. + In summary, on Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop (and maybe others) + 1) Although ACPI couldn't be used with 7.10, the power switch did a marvelous suspend/wakeup. + 2) ACPI now works with 8.04 but wakeup crashes + + I'm trying to introduce Ubuntu in Belarus !!! + I'd like a guest child to return to Belarus in August with a nice gift : a clean 8.04 to run on that excellent spare Tecra 8000 laptop. I'm willing to do everything I can to help fixing this problem. Thanks for the marvellous work you're all doing. Here are the results of my tests of basic ACPI in 7.10 and 8.04 : The Tecra 8000 is a late 1999 computer. So, acpi=force is needed for ACPI to run. Tests were made with (forced) and without ACPI. In conclusion, the differences are : - 7.10 has no ACPI power off and 8.04 has, but only with acpi= force - 7.10 without ACPI does a very fast (supposedly BIOS) power switch suspend/restore that no longer works in 8.04 and with ACPI, 8.04 does a slower suspend and does not restart. 7.10 : - With ACPI, an unexplained CPU loop occurs. As TOP spreads the CPU load across all processes, chances are that it's something like a badly cleared interrupt recurring. Hence, tests with ACPI were impossible in that release. - Without ACPI : - Shutdown does not turn power off, needs a power button long press. - Suspend does turn the power off and turning it on seems to want to restart but the computer hangs right after writing an incomplete bit of a text message on the screen. - BUT BUT BUT, pressing the power button does a very nice and fast suspend/restart. 8.04a4 (tested with live CD, soon getting disk and partitioning to install) : - With ACPI, thanks goodness, the CPU loop is gone, but ... - Shutdown turns the power off all-right - Suspend works but restart is followed by a black screen and dead computer. - Hibernate is unavailable (not in the menu). - Power switch displays the Shutdown menu. - Closing the computer lid suspends, but opening it kills the laptop too. - Without ACPI (normally) : - Shutdown does not turn power off, needs a power button long press. - Suspend is unavailable (not in the menu). - Hibernate is unavailable (not in the menu). - Power switch short press does suspend, but after restart the screen is restored but the computer hangs (no keyboard, frozen mouse) - Additionally, when Cancel is clicked in the Shutdown menu, the Shutdown menu is displayed again. -- ACPI wakeup crashes on Toshiba (Tecra 8000) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
