Another install & the same result.. The plymouth screen just pauses; and both my screens show blue background, lubuntu logo (no longer swirling) and "Powered by Lubuntu" bottom in the centre. No black screen... it's just frozen. On pressing ENTER the reboot occcurs. This install is on the same box - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290) install testcase this time was "Manual partitioning with separate /home" though I don't think testcase item (calamares install options) differ. install is good once again.
