Can you attach your xorg.conf? Also, make sure you are using the very
latest intel driver on hardy and have restarted X after installing it.
This sounds like bug 177492

2008-03-07 Thread David Mills
When you say that compiz has bad performance, could you please provide
some info to back this up.

In particular, using bootchart while compiz is runnin, and posting the
result of glxinfo, xvinfo and your Xorg log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)

Thanks

Do you have the ubuntu7 intel driver? If so, do you still have the
problem if you go back to the ubuntu2 version?

[Bug 194338] Re: Bad performance with compiz

2008-03-06 Thread Islam Badrel-Dein
I can confirm this bug. The system slows down greatly and becomes
unusable when I run compiz. I switched back to Metacity for the moment
as I don't have time to trace this bug.

Here are some logs:

Acer Extensa 5620 Laptop

Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5450 1.66 GHz
Mobile Intel GMA X3100 (uses the i945 driver)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu hardy (development branch)

Using the latest updates as of today.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.24-11-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu1)) #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 21:26:31 UTC 2008

Also, I have noticed that there are seemingly two packages with i945
driver installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-intel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu2

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-i810
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:1.7.4-0ubuntu7

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s compiz
Package: compiz
Architecture: all
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s compiz-core
Architecture: amd64
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2
