[Bug 1947509] Re: system crashes with different and unrelated programs
I'm back. I'm a little embarrassed to reveal that what I reported as a bug turned out to be a matter of setting the system to run wayland or xorg. Apparently the OS is set to run wayland by default. Unless one sets it to run xorg via the button on the lower right side of the sign in screen - provided you use a password to get to your desktop - it'll start with wayland. I've only recently made the adjustment and will find out later if that's all it was. Fingers crossed. Quick question that I don't actually expect an answer to: Since wayland is known to cause such issues, why would Linux make it the default setting? I actually had a similar issue with Ubuntu 21.04 and found out about resetting the preference. The issue I was having didn't happen again after that. Considering that everyone does not use a password to open their system, the problem will persist without a clue as to what to do about it. The button I mentioned that let's you choose between wayland (shows as "ubuntu") or xorg won't show on the start-up screen if you've set your system to log in automatically. I'm going now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947509 Title: system crashes with different and unrelated programs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1947509/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1947509] Re: system crashes with different and unrelated programs
I'd like to mention that before I scrapped Ubuntu 21.10 because of the continual crashes, it was working beautifully. Everything responded faster - programs loading, web sites loading, pictures, etc. I still don't know why it started crashing. Perhaps version 22 will be better. I'm looking forward to giving it a go.
The comment from Brian Murray, while quite informative, does not apply to the problem I'm having. It's not my HDMI display that's freezing, but the system itself. No matter. I scrapped 21.10 and went back to 21.04. I read a suggestion that stated that it would be better to wait for version 22 to come out, since 21.10 is only being supported for the short term - 6 months. That sounds like a beta build meant for a test run of some of the new upcoming features. Since I'm still new to Linux and only months into using Ubuntu, I'll admit that I don't understand enough about the workings of the distro to be posting bug reports. Forgive my ineptness.
