The Ubuntu Intrepid Alpha6 image for Kubuntu (with KDE4.1) came up fine in LiveCD mode. I then installed, and rebooted. KDE came up fine for me then too. I'm going to mark Fix Released. Please reopen this bug if you're still having problems with the Intrepid images. Note that I am using the Nvidia driver on an Intrepid host. For me X crashes shortly after login (10s?) with a similar stack trace. Also see bug 211689, which has been recharacterized as an nVidia driver problem, yet has a similar stack trace. Also, prior to the crash I observe a very strange looking desktop. It looks as though the original desktop had been turned to black and white, then forced to occupy the leftmost 2/3 of the screen. The remaining 1/3 looks as it should, but there is some color separation, as though my monitor needed adjustment. This is with the Hardy release CD (i386 and KDE4 remix) and the vesa driver in my xorg.conf. The AMD64 version behaves even worse. where does the crash occur exactly? Specifically does it happen before or after the login screen? I've attached the xsession-errors. The KDE desktop starts up, I see the desktop and immediately there's a crash before I can click on anything. I also installed from the live CD (again in KVM). The installed one also exhibits the same behaviour. The login screen is pretty stable.
