What videocard and driver are you using? I am using an Intel card. This is the relevant bit in xorg.conf: Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver intel # Option AccelMethod xaa EndSection It seems the commented line was causing the problem, cause commenting it solved it. Weird, I just tried installing vlc and mplayer and I get the same error with both.
