[Bug 198220] Re: [hardy] No logout possible in KDE4

2009-07-28 Thread Jonathan Thomas
Basically, video graphics driver bugs are causing the X server to crash
on logout. Since this report has accumulated comments from many people
with several different hardware sets, it would be best to close this
bug, and open up new reports against the video drivers if this is still
an issue in Kubuntu 9.04.

For example, users using the nvidia 96-series drivers can follow bug
202855. Thanks for your understanding.

[Bug 198220] Re: [hardy] No logout possible in KDE4

2008-08-18 Thread RS
The only thing that helped me to solve this logout problem in GDM was
this.

In System->Pref...->Sounds->Sounds tab

Uncheck the system sounds thro esd.

This will stop the logout process to move forward. Looks like during the
logout process, the logout.wav sound has to be played. Since the
pulseaudio/alsa to work with ESD (no esd daemon is running or setup in
first place during hardy install). This leads to hanging.

[Bug 198220] Re: [hardy] No logout possible in KDE4

2008-06-08 Thread PJSingh5000
I installed Hardy (Kubuntu KDE 3) on three machines:

- 64 Bit Intel with on-chip graphics
- 64 Bit AMD with ATI graphics card using fglrx driver
- 32 Bit AMD with ATI graphics card using fglrx driver

These were fresh installs.

The "XDM_AUTH_MASK" fix seems to help some what, but there seems to be
some other issue as well: Repeated log-in/log-out results in the system
hanging during log-out, even with the "XDM_AUTH_MASK" fix applied.

"TerminateServer=true" is a good work-around, but I suspect there may be
some other process (in addition to authatieventsd.sh) that is hanging
during log-out.

Backports aren't, IMHO, an "official" relase.
This should be marked as fix released only after it hits the official repos.
But then again, i dunno how the update policy works around here :)

Cheers!

klm,

The fix is already in hardy-backports, which I suspect is about as
instituted as it's likely to get.

I don't know the exact details of the bug process, but does a fix in
backports mean we can now mark this as "fix released", anyone?

Interestingly, a similar bug was opened in 2006: Bug #38915

As a workaround, a suggestion posted in Bug #38915 seems to work for me:

In the [X-:*-Core] section of /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc add the following line:
TerminateServer=true

[Bug 198220] Re: [hardy] No logout possible in KDE4

2008-05-03 Thread PJSingh5000

The "XDM_AUTH_MASK" solution does not work for me (AMD64, Kubuntu Hardy x64
KDE3, ATI Radeon X1650 Pro using fglrx driver). I also have Compiz enabled.

I usually get a blank screen when I try to logout. Shutdown or restart
are fine. Sometimes, if logout is successful, I will experience a
problem logging in again... I **correctly** enter my password at the
login screen, then it looks like I am getting logged-in because the
screen goes blank for a second, but then the login screen suddenly
reappears. So I have to RE-enter the password to try a second time.
Sometimes login succeeds at the second try, but I eventually get the
black screen if I try to login and out a few times.

It appears I celebrated to early...
After doing the ldconfig the logout stop working again :(

After installing the xorg and amdcccle the glxgears wouldn't work, complaining
it couldn't find the libGL.so.1.
After doing a ldconfig /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 is pointing to
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2, which is part of the xorg-driver-fglrx. Dunno if this
have anything to do with the problem, but might be worth looking at it.
