Thanks... unfortunately my PC is in the process of slowly dying on me in general, specifically with Ubuntu it currently won't run X on an rt kernel (the drivers aren't there?), won't run MythTV on a non-RT kernel, won't detect my sound (can't load the firmware) and so on... Tricky. This is a crash on boot of a process executed by the start-up scripts. I'm not clear on how I'd get the backtrace as I don't have control of the machine at that point. In fact, I'm having trouble spotting where during start-up mythfilldatabase gets run -- possibly it's spawned by the mythbackend binary, just to make life more fun.
