[Bug 199640] Re: Accents are shown incorrectly after latest updated to Hardy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 162407 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162407 Using xev I could understand keys were mapped wrongly for evdev or default xkb keycode files. I have fixed this for me by editing /etc/X11/xkb/keycodes/evdev, /etc/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86, /etc/X11/xkb/keymap/xfree86, /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/br, /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/inet, /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/jp (conflict) and finally /etc/X11/xorg.conf and gconf-editor (desktop, gnome, peripherals, keyboard, kbd). -- Accents are shown incorrectly after latest updated to Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu (via bug 162407). -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 199640] Re: Accents are shown incorrectly after latest updated to Hardy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 162407 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162407 I am not sure this is a duplicate. The other bug report talks only about accents in KDE and reports GTK apps are ok. What I see here is that system wide the keyboard is not set correctly. Keys like home, del, pgup, pgdown, fn, alt, backspace and accents have problems, do not work at all or are placed at the wrong keys. Switching keyboards and layouts at system / preferences / keyboards and playing around with xorg.conf and /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86 allowed me to ease the problem. Right now everything is fixed except for the [/ ?] key and fn+F3, fn+F6, fn+F10 and fn+F11. As weird as it may sound, fn+other keys work normally, I can't explain it. Using the keyboard type I was supposed to (and always did), which is ABNT2, doesn't work anymore. I am using evdev-managed-keyboard in order to get this closer-to-good results. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 162407 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162407 It goes beyond the accent problems. [Bug 199640] Re: Accents are shown incorrectly after latest updated to Hardy
I have solved the problem for the Gnome environment but I get no accents in console mode. System/Preferences/Keyboard/Layout: Uncheck the checkbox. Anyway, I cannot edit files using accents in console mode (pico, vim, etc): No accents at all.
